5 Free Wine Rack Plans

One of the most creative fields is woodworking. While there is no dearth of woodworking projects one can take up, you still need a little bit of imagination, some basic woodworking skills and right tools to get started. You must choose projects that you can manage and as you hone your skills you can go for complex projects. Making a wine rack is an interesting project that not only makes a beautiful piece of furniture but is also very useful. There are many wine rack plans on the internet. You can always customize the plan according to your needs. For example, you may want less racks, or you may want exotic wood.

One of the great things about the internet is that it offers access to many interesting ideas and concepts for free. This is a great thing for many, especially for people who like to build things. In the past, you would have to scour magazines and other publications for plans and designs. Or you could dive deeper into books, textbooks and the like. This meant that it what more difficult to find plans and designs that were less mainstream and a little more crazy. Thanks to the internet, however, any person who has an interesting idea can post it online, with very little barrier to entry. An example of this is the spread of DIY designs on the internet for free. For instance, there are many wine rack plans and designs available at no cost, as long as you are willing to take the time to look.

1. Wine rack plans which use wood pallets – Here’s an example of a wine rack plan which makes use of a material that many people ignore or just throw away, namely wood pallets. Pallets are used for the transport and shipping of goods around the world. This particular design allows you to salvage the wood. The design is rather simple, and expected construction time is around an hour and a half. It even provides a place to hang your wine glasses. Just keep in mind though that this design maintains the bottles in a vertical position. So it’s no good for longer term storage. It’s more a wine rack for bottles which will be consumed soon.

2. Wine rack plans which use PVC pipe – Here’s another design which takes something which is used for something else, and transforms it into an interesting and functional wine rack. It does take some additional work, in the sense that you need to make sure that the pipe that will be used is suitable for the task of holding the bottles. You want to make sure that the material used is safe around drinks, and isn’t messy or rough. The advantage of this over the previous design is that it stores the bottles in a horizontal position. This makes the rack acceptable for longer term wine storage.

3. Wine rack plans which use a planter – Not everyone has access to wooden pallets, and it can sometimes be tricky working with pipe. Another fairly approachable design to consider involves using planters, which can be bought at gardening shops and hardware places. They don’t cost much and they’re not that hard to find. The resulting wine rack isn’t particularly large, but it can hold a good number of bottles. This may just be the right size for your dining room, or given the number of bottles that you keep. So it may be worth considering.

4. Wine rack plans which use an old bed – If you have a large number of wine bottles in your collection, a small planter-based wine rack won’t be enough. You’ll need something much larger, and with a much higher storage capacity. In line with this, someone has posted wine rack plans which are based around the structure of a salvaged wooden bed. If you need something that can handle dozens of bottles, this might be more up your alley.

5. Wine rack plans which run vertically – This design is an interesting one because the core of the wine rack is a vertical wood structure. The way in which the bottles are supported by the rack is different also. So if you’re looking for something really out of the ordinary, you can check this design out.
